【Overview : Asia International Friendship Exhibition 2022 in Tokyo】
This year marks the 15th year of the Asia International Friendship Exhibition.
This exhibition is an international art exhibition moderated by art educators
from Japan and Indonesia, which is aimed to build a bond between students
in the art field.In 2022, we will invite ７ lecturers and 40 students from
the Fine Arts Course of the Faculty of Art and Design Maranatha Christian
University. As part of the program, we will introduce their artworks, give
7 lectures, and run a workshop program that brings together 100 students
from the two countries via Zoom.
【Exhibition Concept】
The title of this year's "Asia International Friendship Exhibition
2022 in Tokyo" is "鸞翔鳳画 LUAN SHO HOU GA - A Synonym
for Contemporary Asian Art". As the Japanese saying goes, the
phrase " 鸞翔鳳集 Luan sho hou shu" indicates a gathering
of talented people. "鸞 Luan" is a bluebird that is
originated in Indonesia. "鳳 Hou" is an auspicious bird
that appeared when the Holy Son gave birth. A Japanese myth describes this
bird to have 5 colorful feathers and become a golden bird eventually. This
sacred bird, which has its origin in China, is said to appear only in times
of peace. On the other hand, Garuda, the sacred bird of Indonesia, has
its origin from Indian mythology. It is called "迦楼羅 Karura"
or"金翅鳥 Konjicho" in Buddhism. It is said to carry Buddha
on its back and flies through three existences, the universe, and the world.
These mythical birds have been passed down through ages, across borders,
in stories and tales, and eventually, appear in the themes of contemporary
artworks. The subtitle of this exhibition, "Synonyms of Contemporary
Asian Art," means that some bodies of work in contemporary Asian
share a common language, the unchanging universal themes and the current
situation we share -the virus currently raging around the world.This exhibition
will invite you on a journey to a deeper understanding of Japanese and
Indonesian art and the identities of contemporary Asian artists. There
will be lectures given by Indonesian and Japanese contemporary artists,
as well as art events. There will be various events free of charge such
as opening videos taken by Japanese artists, artist talks, lectures, and
workshop programs. We hope you will join this exhibition and the events
via zoom.

【Background】
In modern times where globalization advances, countries in Southeast Asia
and neighboring Asia have an important position both geographically and
economically. On the other hand, opportunities to understand and talk about
Asian art culture have been very limited.
The first objective of this event is to conduct academic discussions on
Asian art and culture, and dialogue with art experts mainly on academic
research.
Japan and Indonesia are similar island states, and while there is a common
culture about art culture, there are also differences in the construction
of art and culture as a matter of course. The Asian Arts and Cultural Association
is to provide opportunities for academics and experts in Indonesia, including
Japan, to present innovative research projects in the fields of performing
arts, visual design, media & technology, arts education and so on.
So today, in Japan and Indonesia, art exchange in both countries is being
conducted, mainly by the Asian Arts and Culture Association. In order to
build friendship relationships with Japan through art culture, this conference
offers a wide range of topics and activities such as symposium (academic
presentation), art exhibition, workshop art collaboration, curators, lecturers,
art educators, close to dialogue with art students.
【Mission】
The main purpose of this exhibition is to dialogue on Asian arts culture
and seek to achieve targets for the following paradigm.
1. Introduction and proposal of a new paradigm through simultaneous understanding
and dialogue based on Asian artistic heritage about discussion and dialogue
on commonness and differences in Asian art and culture.
2. Expansion of research projects in Japanese arts and culture research.
3. Discussion, development and promotion on visual art heritage in Asia.
4. Expansion of research on representational culture in Asia.
5. Promotion of collaborative research programs and exchange exhibition
programs in the field of visual arts, traditional media and technology,
other Asian cultural issues.
6. Indonesian intangible cultural heritage exhibition 2022 catalogue publication.
【Dialogue on Asian Arts and Culture】
In order to propose and discover artistic heritage in Asia and ideas on
cross-cultural dialogue, the symposium will (1) New paradigm of intercultural
dialogue and performing arts (2) Different culture in Southeast Asian visual
arts Dialogue (3) Intercultural dialogue in traditional media and transformation
of recognition culture (4) Dialogue between different cultures, perspective
of new arts. The scope of topics discussed at Asian Arts & Culture
